Have you ever been stuck in an emergency situation? If you have, then you can relate yourself to this post. It is a fact that this is made in a desperate attempt to complete an assignment in time. So, I’ll give you something to contemplate in this first post here. Let’s move on to the topic, shall we?
Forest Fire Prevention System
What sorts of things crossed your mind when you read the heading above? Is it something like this:
Well then, even if it is not the image that popped up in your mind, I wanted to tell you what I’ve been thinking about lately.
This begins while I was reading an article about wildfires in California a few days ago. My mind simply remembered about something that was learned a long time ago: “The destructive force of nature is a part of a cycle, where it will bring new life upon the path it destroys.” Yet, I wonder if there was a way that I can cheat on the force of nature, like preventing it from happening. So, I started searching for a solution for that problem. Based on my learning experience in Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, I have knowledge about something called ZigBee. ZigBee is a type of wireless network communication that uses low power. A device that utilize ZigBee might actually be helpful to collect data from its location. That devices will be put in strategic locations, forming clusters. The data gathered by the device sensors, such as temperature, barometric pressure, wind speed, and sunlight intensity will be processed further to indicate the probability of fire. If there is an area with high risk of fire detected by the system, then an automated deployment of fire prevention drones will sprinkle the area with water in order to lower the fire risk.
Still, I ask myself about using that method in real world. Is it truly effective to put those devices in the vast forest area? What is the price for those devices to cover a hectare of forest? What about the lifespan of the devices under extreme weather? How does the devices withstand from animal attacks? Can the device be designed in such a way that it is compact and self sustaining energy? These questions still remain unanswered as this is only just a glimpse of idea developed out of such emergency situation.
Last but not least, I am grateful for the time you spent reading this article. I hope you enjoy reading this. Please comment to let me know your suggestions for improvement on my next post.
STEM-Z berharap ide yan dibuat oleh Rufus mengenai ZigBee, akan berlanjut sampai ke tahap prototipe dan nantinya dapat digunakan banyak orang, semangat selalu Rufus 😀
